Common questions

Your Questions, Answered

Tap any question to see the answer. Have a different one? Just call.

Do I have to bring my clock to you?

No. We come to your home so heavy or fragile clocks don't have to be moved. Workshop drop-off is also an option if you prefer.

Can you help if the chimes are wrong?

Yes. Westminster, Whittington, and St. Michael chimes can usually be brought back in order through hammer and strike adjustments.

Why did my clock suddenly stop?

Common reasons: the cabinet isn't level, the pendulum is out of beat, dry pivots, tangled chains or cables, weights in the wrong spot, or a movement that needs cleaning.

How often should a grandfather clock be serviced?

Usually every few years — inspect, clean, oil. Exact timing depends on age, dust, use, humidity, and wear.

How do I prepare a clock for moving?

Take out the weights and pendulum, secure chains or cables, and protect the glass and doors. Never move a tall clock with weights or pendulum still installed. Better still — call first.

Can I get help by video call?

Yes, if you prefer it. A short video can help us see what's going on before any travel is needed. Phone alone is also fine.

What does the first phone call cost?

Nothing. Phone estimates are free. We only quote a real price once we understand what your clock needs.
